U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.61% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the declined 1.61%, while the index lost 1.86%, and the index fell 1.78%.

The best performers of the session on the were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:), which rose 3.36% or 1.34 points to trade at 41.22 at the close. Meanwhile, Walmart Inc (NYSE:) added 1.21% or 1.75 points to end at 145.90 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:) was up 0.50% or 1.32 points to 265.03 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE:), which fell 5.09% or 10.89 points to trade at 203.17 at the close. Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:) declined 4.10% or 2.25 points to end at 52.59 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:) was down 3.54% or 4.97 points to 135.40.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were FLIR Systems Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 19.35% to 52.31, L Brands Inc (NYSE:) which was up 6.05% to settle at 39.44 and Tapestry Inc (NYSE:) which gained 5.95% to close at 32.93.

The worst performers were Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:) which was down 6.68% to 23.73 in late trade, Arconic Corp (NYSE:) which lost 6.17% to settle at 27.96 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:) which was down 6.00% to 20.36 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Check Cap Ltd (NASDAQ:) which rose 200.00% to 1.380, Bionano Genomics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 109.42% to settle at 6.450 and Jaguar Health Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 109.82% to close at 1.7100.

The worst performers were Calithera Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 44.30% to 2.73 in late trade, Beam Global (NASDAQ:) which lost 22.20% to settle at 57.40 and Chindata Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 19.99% to 19.17 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2194 to 916 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1859 fell and 1160 advanced, while 45 ended unchanged.

Shares in Calithera Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 44.30% or 2.17 to 2.73. Shares in Bionano Genomics Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 109.42% or 3.370 to 6.450. Shares in Jaguar Health Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 109.82% or 0.8950 to 1.7100.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 2.69% or 50.90 to $1946.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.68% or 1.30 to hit $47.22 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.34% or 1.21 to trade at $50.59 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.91% to 1.2248, while USD/JPY fell 0.06% to 103.14.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 89.885.
